Import your contacts

Bring people from a CSV or a vCard into My clients, and companies from a CSV. Anyone already there with the same email is not duplicated: they get updated.

In My clients › People, a CSV is dragged into Import contacts, Import is pressed and the new people enter the table.

If you already have your contacts in another address book, you do not need to type them in one by one.

Import people

  1. In My clients › People, click Import contacts….
  2. Drag your file into the box, or click to choose it. A CSV or a vCard (.vcf) works.
  3. Click Import.

The notice says how many people came in, how many were already there and got updated, and how many were already there with nothing new. If a person comes with a company and that company does not exist, it is created.

Which CSV columns it reads. It recognizes them by the header name, in Spanish or in English: Name, Email, Company, Role and Phone, and also Tags and Notes. CSV files exported by Google Contacts (with their labels) and Outlook (with their phone numbers and website) work, and so do iPhone vCards. If the name is missing, it uses what comes before the @ in the email.

Import companies

  1. In My clients › Companies, click Import companies….
  2. Choose a CSV with Name, Website, Status, Tags and Notes. If you add Contact, Email and Role, a contact person per company comes in too.
  3. Click Import.

A company you already have with the same name is not repeated.

Duplicates

  • A person with the same email as someone in the directory, or the same name if there is no email, is not repeated: they get updated. What they were missing is filled in and their tags, links and companies are added, without overwriting what they already had.
  • The same goes within the file itself: if someone appears twice, they come in once.

From your phone

In Bitácora Lite, in My clients, the import button offers Choose from my contacts (on Android) or Choose a contacts file. On iPhone, first export your contacts as a vCard from the Contacts app and choose that file. From the Companies tab, import companies.

Troubleshooting

  • "Pick a .csv or .vcf file.": the file is a different type. From Excel, save it as CSV.
  • "There were no new contacts in the file.": they were all there already, or the CSV has no headers Bitácora recognizes. Put Name, Email and Company in the first row.
  • A very large file: 2000 rows at most come in. Split it into several.
